Center Stage

I was recently asked to help with my church’s party committee (YEAH!). Seriously this is defiantly a calling I can enjoy, I love planning parties! We had our annual Birthday dinner to celebrate together as a group. I was asked to make the centerpieces and I knew what I would make. I ran to the store and picked up some dollar glass plates, a box of wine glasses and some spray paint.DSC08568 The finished product at the party, they looked so good and the cupcakes on top just added to the look!Photo_030111_001 They were a huge hit and for $10.00  I was able to make 5 centerpieces!

Cake Squares

Okay so this little treat is something we came up with after thinking about fun treats for birthdays. I absolutely love Bakerella! Her famous Cake Balls are to die for and if you haven't made these go check out her site, bake a cake and make these for a loved one or even just for yourself. Anyways my older brother doesn't like chocolate cake can you believe it? We were thinking of things to make for his birthday cake we decided why not make the cake balls and instead of chocolate cake use a different kind of cake. Even though his birthday is way past i thought i would still make them. Well our first stray from perfection was lemon cake. It was AMAZING!

I'm not very good at dipping chocolate and they don't look professional but one taste and ill have ya hooked

DSC_9790

I take the easy way and just make a store bought cake. The lemon frosting was what really made it go over the top and since nothing goes better with lemon then semi sweet i grabbed a bag of that.

The rest is cake(pun was intended) just bake a cake, destroy it, add frosting and roll them out.

DSC_9796

I didn't have any lollipop sticks left and i didn't have the patients to roll each cake ball this time so i used a silicone brownie bite tray and threw them in the freezer. I like to leave mine overnight it makes them so easy to dip.

After dipping them in the semisweet chocolate i swirled a little white chocolate i colored yellow to let people know they were lemon.

They were heaven. I took some over to my mother as a little thank you for watching my kiddo and my father just kept saying wow these are good.

My mother and i decided a cherry cake would be the next experiment. We even thought Carrot cake with cream cheese or for a surprise for my hubby we would try the rainbow chip(his all time fav). Let us know what kind of cake you would try!

Trash 2 Treasure - Valentines Tray

A couple of days after Kori came up with the Trash 2 Treasure month I was thinking of all the things I throw away that can have double use. This was one of them. If you have kids and you love to go to movies I'm sure you know what this is. My son loves to go see movies with us and so we buy him a kids popcorn try. I normally throw them away but I saved it and turned it into a valentine tray.

I took the kids popcorn tray and painted them the colors i wanted

After the paint dried I covered them in scrapbook paper and filled them with some fun little treats. Nothing to big just a couple of cookies, a red soda and a lil book showing "my valentines" how much I love them. Now I'm only showing you the first page of the book since you wont be able to see the other pages anyways. It was a simple and fast valentine that you can make with a few things you normally would throw away. Why not save some money while you tell someone you love them.

This is not a Trash 2 Treasure valentine but i wanted to show you what i left in my fridge for my hubby to find when he wakes up.
If you like this last idea you dont have to wait for Valentines to tell the people you love how you feel. Something as simple as a soda in the fridge can be appreciated any time of the year. I know my husband loves the little things i surprise him with way more then a huge present.
We hope everyone has a HAPPY VALENTINES! XOXO

Happy Napping

DSC08319  Pillow Pets, I know they are all the craze now days with kids and I am sure you have seen them here and there (if not what cave are you hiding in and can we join you!!).  Well if you have seen them you probably have looked at the price tag…$20 Bucks! Ouch, so not in my budget for a pillow with a head! Here is a picture, just to make sure we are on the same page! So that got me thinking, why not make one. I will give you a warning, I am NOT a great sewer by any means (My husband had to teach me how to thread my machine!) and I make my own patterns (I am totally not qualified to read patterns!). But I love my machine and have a good time attempting to share my little skills! SO if your in for an adventure… here we go!
Items Needed:
  • Large Stuffed animal
  • Fabric (for the pillow)
  • Sewing Machine
  • Strong stomach, it is hard to cut those little guys up ;)
First of all you need a large stuff animal. If you are like me and do not own any the the thrift stores are calling your name! I picked up these two bears for $3.00 buck (Score!) DSC08290I started with my piece for my pillow, Mine was 21x17 it looked good to me!DSC08299Next up is the part that if you have a squeamish stomach or love for the stuffed animals turn away! You are going to cut that poor little guy right up the middle. All I could think of as I was doing this was the cute little voices in Toy Story and I felt like Sid for a minute! I had to keep assuring myself I was giving her a new home and life!                   DSC08292DSC08293 Once you have all the stuffing pulled out (makes it much easier to sew.) You are going to cut off the arms and legs and tail. Then start by pinning the head to the pillow inside.
DSC08300DSC08305
I wanted my head to be stuffed with the pet so I sewed around the inside of the head to the pillow.
DSC08306After the head is sewn on I sewed down both sides of the top. Then come the fun part of pinning. Place your feet(if you want them) where you would like them and pin all the sides. All that is left is to sew around the pillow. Remember to leave a place so you can flip her right side out. Here is a picture of what it looked like before I sewed all the sides all the bear part that is showing is what will be on the inside DSC08309All sewn and ready for her cream filling or stuffing! DSC08312I would like to introduce you to Patty the Pet Pillow! I added a bow because Miss A needed a girl pillow pet! For a little boy you could add a cute baseball cap or tie! DSC08322 I added a few Velcro dots to her inside belly and now she is ready to go to Miss A for a happy little nap!!DSC08319 So what do you think about my 1st sewing tutorial? Did I pass? If I missed any step or you have questions please ask! We love hearing from all of you! How great would these be for last minute Valentine Presents or Friend Birthday, for under $4.00 I was able to make Patty!

Cool Whip Crown

DSC08194Yes you read that title completely right! Do you have a lot of cool whip containers lying around your house? Well I seem to get oodles and I have a hard time parting with them for the fact that we usually use them as dog food dishes (Panda the Dog gets pretty excited when he sees them!).DSC08188
I was watching as Miss. A was robbing Panda and wearing his food dish on her head (YUCK!). We are approaching the “Dress up” stage quite quickly and that got me thinking, how fun to turn it into a crown. As I told Tara my idea I got confused looks! But here is a fun little tutorial in all its glory! How fun would these be for birthday parties, or just a rainy day at home. I made a boy and girl one to show how fun they are.
Items Needed:
  • Cool Whip container
  • Paint or Felt to cover container
  • Embellishments
  • glue
  • scissors/exacto knife
I started by tracing how I wanted the crown on the inside of the dish. Then used a exacto knife to cut off the top part. This way the top of the bowl (finished side) is going to be up against the kids head. DSC08190Add some spray paint (because it is quicker and I am impatient!) Plus it was a whopping 7 degrees outside!DSC08191Then comes the fun part add stickers, jewels beads, ribbons, or let the kids have some markers and color their own design.  DSC08192 Here I added some footballs for the super bowl! These are lots of fun and a quick little craft for kidsDSC08193
